Buret Calibration and Standardization of NaOH Solution

After completing this activity, students will be able to:

  1. Use basic output from an analytical tool (buret) to calibrate that tool.
  2. Use data to perform error analysis (identify the presence of random and/or systematic errors).
  3. Standardize a sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution using titration of potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP) using a calibrated buret.
  4. Report the determined concentration of the standardized NaOH solution.
  5. Communicate (oral and written) scientific concepts related to calibration and standardization.
